Spotlight on Irish talent – can you help?

Spotlight on Irish Talent

I have decided to create a new category on the blog, entitled Spotlight on Irish Talent, where I will have the opportunity to bring to you the work of some of Ireland’s most talented people. I’m thinking this will initially start out with writers, artists, musicians, bloggers, photographers etc, but hopefully will evolve to include a more diverse range of talents – both professional and amateur.

Where to look

As you may have noticed, ‘Got Ireland’ got a little makeover this past week. I am very happy with how it turned out, and I hope you like it. The new look gives me more flexibility in how content is arranged, particulaly on the home page, and within individual postings. You’ll find the spotlight articles by scrolling towards the bottom of the home page, or by using/bookmarking the category link.

What’s next?

For now, I have labelled a few past posts from musicians and writers with the new category. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the initial selection. In the meantime I have been scouring the net for some more great Irish talent. Of course, the person/group doesn’t necessarily have to be Irish – e.g. a band from the USA playing Irish music might fit the bill.
I’m also hoping that you can help me discover some talented folk to feature. If you have a suggestion I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to drop me an email at info@gotireland.com so I can check out your suggestion.

Cheers!
Liam

  1. I’m a huge fan of the singer songwriter Lisa Hannigan!

  2. Can I make a suggestion? Maybe focus on talent that may not be well known, or not have much high name & face recognition, in the entertainment & art industry outside of Ireland & UK. For example, Collin Farrell, Bono/U2, Sinéad O’Connor, Brendan and Dom Gleeson etc. could be considered well known – they get enough exposure already to the those that follow the entertainment industry. I say this because my knowledge of “mostly known in Ireland & UK” entertainers is rather limited. Just a suggestion.

For my input, I’ll vouch for Fionn Regan. I think my American friends who are into folk rock, and other similar genres, would like his music. Although her name & face recognition is rising, I’ll also add actress Sarah Bolger.

    • Thanks for that John! I’m with you, I’ll mostly feature lesser known acts/authors/writers etc. There’s so much talent out there, but it’s only the big names that get a lot of exposure. Maybe I can help a few people out a little. I’ll check out Fionn and Sarah. Hadn’t heard of them, so great suggestions 🙂
