One of my favorite times to be back home in Cork – October, for the Guinness Jazz Festival. This music festival has been held annually in Cork since the late 1970’s, and you won’t be disappointed if you can get yourself into the city to enjoy some of the festivities.
‘The Jazz’ (as you might hear it referred to in Cork) draws some of the biggest names in Jazz music to the streets and venues of Cork. Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny Rollins, George Shearing among others, are some of the big name stars to have hit the Cork stages for past festivals. This year’s lineup of artists and venues can be found at GuinnessJazzFestival.com.
Cork puts on a really good show this time of year. There’ll be other events throughout the weekend including a food fair, an open Jam session, chances to win prizes and much more. The link above, as well as Whazon.com (Cork’s entertainment guide) are good starting points. So get your calendars out, and start filling them up 🙂
If you’re new to Cork, I’m sure you will find my 45 Things To Do In Cork City post useful. And if you’re looking for somewhere to rest your head at night, you might want to point your mouse in the direction of B&B Ireland.
