Where will you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

Get your finest green sweater out from the back of the closet, dust off your favorite shillelagh, begin building up a thirst that only the very finest Guinness can quench, and start checking parade routes. We are now in the month of March, Saint Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to celebrate the biggest day on the Irish calendar.

Contrary to what you might be led to believe by some elements of pop culture these days, St Patrick’s Day is far more than a “drinking holiday”, or a day to dress up like a Leprechaun, or a celebration of just about anything Irish. March 17th is the day to commemorate Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the patron saint of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

But I’m not here to spread the word of Christianity – Saint Patrick already did a very fine job of that. I’m here to ask you for a little feedback. I would LOVE to hear where you will be celebrating St Paddy’s Day this year. Are you lucky enough to be catching the Dublin, New York or Sydney parade? Or maybe even the Galway, Boston or Chicago one?

Leave a comment below and tell us where you’ll celebrate your Irish-ness this year. Or let your mind take you to where you’ve always dreamt of celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day, and tell us where that is.

Happy St. Patrick’s Month to you : )

  1. I will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Irish dancing with my group at the big St. Patrick’s festival nearby. I will be dancing in 4 of the dances, and I am a bit excited and nervous to be performing in front of such a large crowd. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Wow! That sounds great! I’m sure all the practice and muscle-memory will override any nervousness. Good luck and enjoy 🙂

  2. I usually host a dinner party with the requisite corned beef, potatoes etc and lots of beer. This year I have a big kitchen remodel going on and don’t even have a sink…so I am going downtown to the parade and maybe hit O’Sheas for a coffee or two. Slainte!
